Language characteristics It's a Romance language that's mostly spoken, with a variety of acquired characteristics from all the different occupants that throughout time have lived in Sicily. It has three distinct varieties that are divided into sub varieties that are dependent on the geographical area. Modern Sicilian has sufficient flexibility to include new terms that it encounters from other languages while still maintaining its structure despite the fact that it is seldom read or written. It conveys meaning in a very direct manner, especially in expressing feelings/emotions (similar to Neapolitan), and at the same time it retains most of the articulation of Romance languages while being brief.
It is used mainly in the following industries: Wine, Citrus agriculture, Olives, and Pistachios.
